The Story

Hi Quintin, thank you so much for the pictures, – for me they are beautiful, never expected them to be like this! When I first saw the project on your website, I knew it was something that I wanted to do.
I have always had a problem with my body, never liked to see myself in pictures, and by taking part of this project, it has changed my whole mindset!

I am OK with not having the perfect body, but I love every bit of my body, every “vet rolletjie” tells a story. And I am happy! Yes my behind is not my favourite part, but everything else I am happy with.

It took courage to do it, but I want to thank you for being so professional and making me feel so comfortable during the shoot! I really enjoyed the experience.

P.S. You can show my face in the pictures, I am OK with people seeing who I am. It took me 51 years to get me to the point of doing this shoot, and I am happy with myself. If this can encourage other women to do it, why not :-).

Thanks again for the pictures, I REALLY love them (I wish there were more :-).)

A note from the photographer:
Even though all the project participants sign a model release I still like to ask whether or not they are happy to have their face visible on the website. Most decline, which I completely understand, but Mrs L really surprised me – this was her reply.

As I type this I am overcome with a combination of hope, excitement, relief and a few tears. The fact that someone trusted me enough to take part, and got so much out of the experience, is truly humbling. The fact that they are happy to show the world how awesome they are is priceless.
